I have a practice section that addresses the scenarios where a driving while suspended offense can result in jail. As with any “mistake” (such as forgetting to take care of your license) the problems really start when your repeat the same mistake over and over again. That’s why it is so important to make sure that each time you are charged with driving while suspended, you do all that you can to avoid a conviction, because not only do you face harsh penalties for a first offense, but the penalties just keep getting worse with each subsequent conviction.
The key is to avoid conviction the first time. As much as we all like the think that we will not make the same mistakes again, unfortunately we all tend to have a little repeat irresponsibility. Accordingly, when it happens, whether it’s the first time, the second, the third, or subsequent, if you have been charged with driving while suspended, do yourself a favor and contact a lawyer who may be able to put out the fire before it gets started.
